Destination Wedding Planner: My Week Unplugged

Posted by on February 24th, 2015

I spent last week in El Chalten, Patagonia.  Before arriving, my Lonely Planet guide book had warned me that El Chalten had no television, no cell service and no Wifi—no problem.

DAY 1

We pulled into town and I immediately lost cell service.  I thought ahhhhh I am completely free!  After checking  in and getting settled, reality set in and I returned to the front desk just to double check on the Wifi situation (Lonely Planet does not know everything—right?).  Low and behold Don Los Cerros Inn has Wifi!!!!  I returned to my room with a login user, password, and a healthy dose of shame.  Please see below:

Day 2

I wake up early for our first trek in Patagonia!  I put on my base layer (long underware) wind pants, fleece, and wind layer jacket.  Next, I boot up my laptop and try to get online–just for a minute.  No go.  No problem 🙂  That evening, after a 4 hour hike, a dinner of red meat and amazing red wine I still find the energy to try and boot up my laptop (just to check).  No go.

Day 3

I wake up early to catch a boat to hike a glacier and trek through an ice cave, that because of the movement of the glacier will be gone forever in two weeks– one quick thing before I leave the room–  you guessed it, I open my laptop and try to log on.  No go.

Day 4, 5, 6

I have endless, at times ruthless, adventures in El Chalten, Patagonia, and oh yeah I don’t even think about opening my laptop.

No television, no cell service, no problemo!
